Lyon Airport
Lyon Airport is situated 15 kms east of
the city. There are numerous arrival and departure gates in the Airport
but the majority of UK flights arrive at gate 17 which is conveniently
close to the minbus car park. Being one of the major French airports
means that it is very well appointed with shops, restaurants and bars.
Whilst Lyon Airport is considerably further away than Geneva or Chambery
the route is almost entirely on motorway making for fast transfer
times. Be aware that even the motorway can get vey busy during school
holidays though, with long queues at the tolls. Transfer prices do
reflect the distance and tolls involved.
Meribel
Meribel is the most central of the Three
Valleys and, as such, is in the best location for exploring this
massive area. It consists of several villages. The main Meribel
town was developed as a ski resort using traditional style chalets
and therefore retains an attractive appearance. It runs up the eastern
side of the valley through 1600m up to the Altiport. The higher
village of Mottaret is built in a more modern style at 1700m. The
newer development of Meribel Villages is below the main town on
the road to La Tania. Lower down is the original town of Les Allues
plus a number of smaller villages. The main nightlife spot would
certainly be central Meribel but prices are slightly higher than
average for ski resorts.
