Geneva Airport
Geneva airport is situated
very close to the French border and, as such, has terminal's in
both Switzerland and France. Always exit on the Swiss side unless
you have visa issues which prevent you from entering Switzerland
(non EU passengers). This is the most popular airport for transfers
to our area due to it's proximity and the varied choice or airlines
and routes available. Easy Jet fly here from a large number of UK
cities.
The route from Geneva takes you along Lake Annecy which is very
picturesque but can have heavy traffic during school holidays. A
new motorway is due to open in December 2008 between the airport
and Annecy which should cut transfer times by 15 minutes.
Meribel
Meribel is the most central of the Three
Valleys and, as such, is in the best location for exploring this
massive area. The main Meribel town was developed as a ski resort
using traditional style chalets and retains an attractive appearance.
It runs up the eastern side of the valley through 1600m up to the
Altiport. The higher village of Mottaret is built in a more modern
style at 1700m. The newer development of Meribel Villages is below
the main town on the road to La Tania. Lower down still is the original
town of Les Allues plus a number of smaller villages. The main nightlife
spot would certainly be central Meribel which boasts many good restaurants
and bars. Prices are slightly higher than average for ski resorts.
