Geneva Airport
Geneva airport is situated very close to the French border and, as such, has terminal's in both Switzerland and France. Always exit on the Swiss side unless you have visa issues which prevent you from entering Switzerland (non EU passengers). This is the most popular airport for transfers to our area due to it's proximity and the varied choice or airlines and routes available. EasyJet offer cheap flights to here from a large number of UK cities.
The best route from Geneva takes you along Lake Annecy which is very picturesque but can have heavy traffic during school holidays. The new motorway link between the airport and Annecy which opened in winter 2009 cut transfer times by 15 minutes without affecting the price.
Val Thorens
Along with Les Menuires, Val Thorens is
at the top of the most westerly of the three Valleys - Vallee de
Belleville. With the village situated at 2300 metres and the highest
run starting at 3200 metres, this is another resort that can boast
an excellent snow record. With access to Meribel and Courchevel,
the variety of terrain is huge. Val Thorens has its own snowboard
park which is right near the town. It is well appointed with bars,
restaurants and nightclubs but is certainly not the most attractive
looking resort. Be aware that It can be very cold here at night
and the drive up from Moutiers takes around 45 minutes on a good
day.
