Geneva Airport
Geneva airport is situated
very close to the French border and, as such, has terminal's in
both Switzerland and France. Always exit on the Swiss side unless
you have visa issues which prevent you from entering Switzerland
(non EU passengers). This is the most popular airport for transfers
to our area due to it's proximity and the varied choice or airlines
and routes available. Easy Jet fly here from a large number of UK
cities.
The route from Geneva takes you along Lake Annecy which is very
picturesque but can have heavy traffic during school holidays. A
new motorway is due to open in December 2008 between the airport
and Annecy which should cut transfer times by 15 minutes.
La Plagne
The resort of La Pagne is made up of
many villages. Starting from the bottom - Plagne 1800, Plagne
Centre, Aime La Plagne, Plagne Bellecote and Belle Plagne (all
of which are of the purpose built, high rise variety). There's
also Plagne Villages and Plagne Soleil, not to mention Montalbert
and Champagny which are accessed from the other side of the resort.
The ski runs sprawl over a very large area and provide a very
wide range of terrain. The park is fairly average but the pipe
is very good after it has been groomed. La Plagne has a reputation
as an intermediate, family resort but this is far from the truth
as it has plenty of hard runs and good off-piste than can remain
untracked for several days after a snowfall.
Geneva to La Plagne
- 165kms - approx. 3hrs
