Chambery Airport
Chambery Airport is situated just east of the city. The last five years have seen a great increase in the availability of flights here from the UK. FlyBe, Snowjet and BMI have regular arrivals at very reasonable prices. Chambery is also the nearest airport to the resorts in our area making for some very short transfers which are, for the large part on motorways.
The down side to Chambery Airport is that it is very small. There
is only one shop and one cafe on-site and on Saturdays the terminal
can be very busy. It is also situated in a fairly narrow valley
which can attract bad weather resulting in flight delays or
diversions on occasion. Having said that, when everything runs smoothly
it can make for an incredibly convenient and cheap transfer.
Les Menuires
Les Menuires, along with Val Thorens and
St. Martin, make up the westerly of the Three Valley's - Vallee de
Belleville. Probably the worst of the many ugly looking resorts in
the area, it nonetheless has a full compliment of bars, restaurants,
clubs and many high rise appartment blocks. As with all resorts in
the Three Valleys, the terrain for skiing and snowboarding is hugely
varied. The area immediately around Les menuires is also extensively
covered with snow canons so that even in poor seasons, there is usually
no problem with skiing right into the town.
