Chambery Airport
Chambery Airport is situated just north
of the city. The last three years have seen a great increase in
the availability of flights here from the UK. FlyBe and Excel have
regular arrivals at very reasonable prices. Chambery is also the
nearest airport to the resorts in our area making for some very short transfers
which are, for the large part on motorways.
The down side to Chambery Airport is that it is very small. There
is only one shop and one cafe on-site and on Saturdays the terminal
can be very busy. It is also situated in a fairly narrow valley
which can attract bad weather resulting in flight delays or
diversions on occasion. Having said that, when everything runs smoothly
it can make for an incredibly convenient and cheap transfer.
Les Arcs
Les Arcs is the Cool Bus local resort so
expect nothing but a completely biased review here! The resort is
fantastic with tons of terrain, particularly now that it is linked
with La Plagne via the largest ski lift in the world. There is some
incredible off-piste with the only downside being that it does get
tracked out very quickly. The snowboard park is extremely well shaped
and maintained. Sadly no halfpipe though. There are excellent tree
runs around 1600 and vallandry. It also has the longest ski run in
the Alps from the top of the Rouge all the way down to Villaroger.
If you want nightlife go to 1800. If you want nice chalets go to Vallandry.
If you want to be closest to the best terrain go to 1950 or 2000.
That is it in a nutshell!
