Chambery Airport
Chambery Airport is situated just north
of the city. The last three years have seen a great increase in
the availability of flights here from the UK. FlyBe and Excel have
regular arrivals at very reasonable prices. Chambery is also the
nearest airport to the resorts in our area making for some very short transfers
which are, for the large part on motorways.
The down side to Chambery Airport is that it is very small. There
is only one shop and one cafe on-site and on Saturdays the terminal
can be very busy. It is also situated in a fairly narrow valley
which can attract bad weather resulting in flight delays or
diversions on occasion. Having said that, when everything runs smoothly
it can make for an incredibly convenient and cheap transfer.
La Plagne
The resort of La Pagne is made up of many
villages. Starting from the bottom - Plagne 1800, Plagne Centre, Aime
La Plagne, Plagne Bellecote and Belle Plagne (all of the purpose built,
high rise variety). There's also Plagne Villages and Plagne Soleil,
not to mention Montalbert and Champagny which are accessed from the
other side of the resort. The ski runs sprawl over a very large area
and provide a very wide range of terrain. The park is fairly average
but the pipe is very good after it has been groomed. La Plagne has
a reputation as an intermediate, family resort but this is far from
the truth as it has plenty of harder runs and very good off-piste
than can remain untracked for several days after a snowfall.
Chambery to La Plagne - 140kms - approx. 1hr 50
