Advice
Okay, the majority
of you may have already booked your flights before checking out
transfers. For those of you who haven't we hope this will help you
plan a smoother transfer and for those of you who have, this should
help you for future holidays.
Cool Bus operate
in the Tarentaise Valley which gives access to three of the largest
ski areas in the world. In the winter there is only one way into
and out of this valley. As such, the route from Albertville to Moutiers
and Bourg St. Maurice gets very busy on saturdays.
This occurs mainly from 8am until 1pm for traffic leaving the valley,
and from 2pm until 7pm for traffic arriving. By booking your flights
at certain times you can avoid traffic in both directions and save
increased transfer times. To give some idea of the extent of traffic
jams, some of the worst journeys we have experienced have taken
up to eight hours for a transfer that would normally take three!
Obviously the worst of this occurs over the peak periods around
christmas/new year and all through february but transfer times can
be doubled at any point through the season.
The ideal flight times that we suggest would be either early or
very late in both directions. If your outbound flight arrives by
10am you can be on the road by 11 and avoid the queues to the resorts.
Like wise, if your homeward flight departs at 11am you would need
to leave your resort at 7am and would again avoid the traffic.
Obviously this all means a very early start in both directions but
you will have to decide whether the advantage of the shorter transfer
time will outweigh this. It could also be worth considering a very
late homeward flight. If you fly home at 10pm you would need to
leave the resort around 5.30. This has the additional advantage
of giving you another day on the snow. Most hotels will require
you to check out by 10am but will allow you to store your baggage
with them during the day (best to check this first).
